Hoyas Offense Grinding To Halt Without Chris Wright

Feb 27, 2011 4:03 PM

Chris Wright, starting point guard for the 11th ranked Hoyas, broke his left hand on Wednesday in a 58-46 loss to Cincinnati.

Wright’s absence was apparent in Georgetown’s 58-51 loss to Syracuse as the Hoyas missed 32 of its 50 shots, including 11 of its 12 attempts after taking a two-point lead with 10 minutes 2 seconds in the game.

The Hoyas' 36 percent field goal percentage was their second worst this season; the 25 percent effort in Wednesday's loss to Cincinnati was the worst of coach John Thompson III’s tenure. Without Wright running the point, the Hoyas have looked out of sorts offensively.

“At points, we were holding the ball a little bit too long, looking for something," said guard Austin Freeman.

Georgetown's Wright Undergoes Hand Surgery

Feb 24, 2011 1:38 PM

Georgetown point guard Chris Wright had surgery Thursday on his broken left hand and is expected to return to the Hoyas before the end of the season.

Hoyas coach John Thompson III did not offer a specific timetable on Wright's return but said the team's medical staff was "optimistic" that Wright would play again before the season is over.

Wright was hurt Wednesday in the second half of the 11th-ranked Hoyas' 58-46 home loss to Cincinnati, when he lost possession in the paint and committed a foul as he reached for the ball.

Freeman Fights Through Sprained Ankle

Feb 14, 2011 7:32 PM

Austin Freeman sprained his right ankle in Sunday's 69-60 win over Marquette on Sunday. Freeman left the floor with 1:33 remaining in the first half, but he was able to return in the second half.

"I got on the floor and somebody landed on my ankle," Freeman said. "It rolled. I was just trying to get up and see if I [could] walk on it. … It didn't hurt as much while I was playing."

"Austin sprained his ankle," Head Coach John Thompson III said. "Obviously he was able to go in the second half, but is he 100 percent? No. We'll figure it out as soon as we get back to school. But he was able to play, though he was limping a little bit."

Freeman had 17 points, shooting 7-for-17 from the field and 1-for-8 from distance.

Georgetown Blows Lead, Still Beats Louisville

Feb 1, 2011 6:37 AM

No. 14 Georgetown defeated No. 13 Louisville 62-59 on Monday night despite blowing an 11-point lead in the second half.

Chris Wright, who went scoreless against Villanova recently, scored 24 points against the Cardinals.

"I have to see how the game is going to determine my role," said Wright, who attempted only three shots but had six assists in the 69-66 win over then-No. 8 Villanova on Saturday.

"In the last game, Austin [Freeman] was hitting shots all over the place, early and often, so why force something? Why force the issue? I've got to be the playmaker. Whatever that entails is what I've got to do."
